Rainbow Loom Relief Project for Phillipines

**********addendum*************

We raised about $900.00 in total through our sales and fundraising for the Phillipines! With the government’s match that is $1800.00 that was sent to help the victims. Pat yourselves on the back! I’m so proud of you all!

*********************************************************************
So far in grade 4, we have learned that we can make a difference in someone’s life. Through charitable activities like crazy hat day and with random acts of kindness everyday, we help and put smiles on the faces of others. We are learning about water now, where it comes from, how the water cycle works and how the lives of every living organism depends on it.

Last week, devastation hit the other side of the world. Typhoon Haiyan destroyed a part of the Phillipines and left it without water, electricity and food. The opportunity for us to make a difference (and make someone smile by donating some money to get fresh water to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan) is upon us…and our students found it again. Hence, the creation of the Rainbow Loom Club.

Over the past two weeks, students across the school are spending their lunch hour making Rainbow Loom rings, bracelets, anklets and necklaces to sell at Edgewater School’s craft fair on Saturday, November 30th. We are teaming up with our school’s Peace Pals and we invite you to spread the word and come to the craft fair to support our cause. The jewelery will be sold between $2.00- $5.00. students will be onsite showing you how they craft the jewelery from these mini elastic bands. We can take orders too! Raffle tickets will also be sold to win a Rainbow Loom Kit. All profit will be donated to a registered Canadian Charity (to be chosen by the students) such as the Canadian Red Cross, Plan Canada, Save the Children, Unicef etc…

For every dollar that we donate in response to the impact of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the government will set aside one dollar through the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Matching Fund.

Edgewater School’s craft fair takes place on Saturday, November 30th. Hope to see you there!!

I feel so bad for the phillipines

It is a tragedy, Selena. When disasters like this happen, people come together to do what they can to make it better. Everyone does what they can to help and by doing so, we bring relief to us and others.

We should make a sale, like a bake sale or a cooking campaign. $$$$$$$$$$$

Maybe you can bake some cookies to sell at the craft fair and we can show you how to make a bracelet at lunch time on Monday. Compromise!

I feel so bad for the people with no houses or clean water it is awful to realise that they are suffering and that
people don’t even care that they are dying.

Aww, it would be great if someone could buy more bands. I found a cool site to show us even more ways to make loom jewelry.

Fabulous news, Anthony! Hana’s mom and Mrs. Rivard donated some money to our cause and I used it to buy more elastics. You will will love the vibrant colours!

I totally agree with all of you. The people in the Phillipines lives just turned upside down with all of this. It’s so hard to think that there are so many people that HAVE access to clean water and don’t even care the slightest bit about the tragical disaster. There are even times when I go to sleep crying because people are so cruel. As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to right now as I write this comment.:(

      Sharada,

I can envision you as the next Severn Suzuki!

Thank you for your empathy and desire for change.
